Trustee Vacancy

Help shape the future of independent advocacy in Wales

Advocacy Support Cymru (ASC) is a registered charity providing independent statutory mental health and mental capacity advocacy across much of South Wales. Operating from offices in Cardiff and Swansea, we employ 57 staff and have an annual turnover of approximately £2.5 million.

Every day, our advocates ensure that some of the most vulnerable people in our communities have their voices heard, their rights upheld and their wishes represented. As we continue to develop and grow, we are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

Why become an ASC Trustee?

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of ASC, supporting good governance and ensuring the charity continues to deliver high-quality advocacy services for the people who rely on us.

This is an excellent opportunity to:

  • Make a meaningful contribution to improving mental health and advocacy services across Wales.
  • Help guide the future direction of a well-established and respected charity.
  • Work alongside an experienced Board and senior leadership team.
  • Use your professional skills to make a lasting social impact.
  • Develop your own governance and leadership experience.

This is a voluntary, unpaid position, although reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

The role

As a Trustee, you will fulfil the legal duties set out by the Charity Commission, including:

  • Ensuring ASC delivers its charitable purposes for the public benefit.
  • Acting in the charity's best interests.
  • Managing the charity's resources responsibly.
  • Ensuring appropriate governance, accountability and compliance.
  • Exercising reasonable care, skill and judgement.

In addition, Trustees play an important role in maintaining a positive organisational culture, supporting sustainable growth and contributing to the long-term success of ASC in a specialist and evolving sector.

Who are we looking for?

  • We welcome applications from people with a range of professional backgrounds, experiences and perspectives who share our commitment to independent advocacy and improving outcomes for people who use our services.
  • Previous trustee experience is welcomed but is not essential. We value enthusiasm, sound judgement, integrity and a willingness to contribute strategically.
  • We are committed to building a diverse Board and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and communities.
