Who are we?
We provide high quality housing related support and substance misuse treatment services for vulnerable people 16+, adults and families across South Wales to prevent homelessness and improve people’s lives. Through our volunteering, education, employment and training opportunities we aim to raise aspirations and support people to lead independent and positive lives. Service users are at the heart of everything we do and we work a co-production model involving people in all aspects of the business.
We have an opportunity to join us in delivering housing related support to people in their homes or temporary accommodation throughout Cardiff. Our Pobl teams provide support to people to develop the key skills needed to prevent homelessness, improve financial capability and to develop the skills to settle in the community and achieve positive progression.
The role will be varied and involve providing housing related support to vulnerable people in their homes or temporary accommodation to prevent homelessness and develop skills needed to maintain their tenancies, change negative behaviour, maintain their health and wellbeing, progress to independent living and make appropriate choices.
Our support team work to encourage the people we support to deal with issues that may threaten their homes including improving budgeting skills, addressing debts, maximising income through appropriate benefits or entering employment, life skills and household management, accessing support with alcohol or substance misuse, mental and physical health and wellbeing and anti-social behaviour.
What skills and experience do I need?
To be a great Support Worker, you don’t always need previous experience or qualifications. A good understanding of housing related support and welfare benefits or awareness of issues faced by people at risk of homelessness would be extremely useful in the role. What you do need is positivity, energy, enthusiasm, integrity. You need to treat people with dignity and respect and have the ability to engage people in solutions focused support to be better equipped to manage their homes independently.
You need to be reliable because people are depending on you. To succeed in this role, you will be a great communicator, both verbally and in writing and have basic IT and numerical skills. For this post, you’ll require an Enhanced DBS check, for which we’ll pay.
