Recognition for Volunteers

Across Wales the partnership of volunteer centres provides recognition for volunteers aged 14 – 25. We would like an intern to investigate the most appropriate ways to provide recognition for volunteers aged 25+

The internship involves:
• Research and identify possible accreditation and rewards schemes.
• Liaise with Volunteer Centre colleagues and stakeholders and get feedback
• Investigate possibility of certificates/portfolio/on-line version
• Produce a feasibility study of different options including costs
• Produce a report of findings and suggested approaches

African Mothers Foundation

At African Mothers Foundation we have a team of volunteers who contribute to delivering our work internationally within impoverished communities in Sub-Sahara Africa. We have recently opened a charity shop on Clifton Street in Cardiff, and the proceeds will support our international partnerships.

We would like an intern to review and improve our volunteering policies and procedures to attract and retain new volunteers.

The internship involves:
• Consulting with colleagues and volunteers to understand needs/ requirements
• Reviewing the recruitment process
• Produce a volunteer policy and procedures
• Identify ways to promote volunteering e.g. through social media, events etc

Our volunteers are a very significant part of our organisation and its service delivery and success. We want to improve how we work with volunteers in meeting their needs. We would like an intern to undertake a Human Resource related project to raise the standards in how we manage our volunteers with a view to the organisation working towards achieving an external accreditation such as Investors in Volunteering.

The internship will involve:
• Assess our volunteers needs and requirements and their experience of volunteering with us
• Assess training needs and review our approach to volunteer training
• Formalising our volunteer policies to raise the satisfaction of our volunteers and to secure a continuous supply of new and motivated volunteers

At Oasis Cardiff we help Refugees and Asylum Seekers to integrate into their local community in Cardiff. We provide weekly cookery sessions, arts and craft sessions and language classes and much more to approximately 100 visitors each day.

We would like an intern to speak to our service users to assess their needs and understand some of their perception for e.g. Wales and its public services and collate findings as a piece of research.

The internship involves:
• Speaking to colleagues to understand the charity’s aims, objectives and requirements
• Speaking to services users and collate feedback via surveys and interviews to understand individual needs and perceptions
• Document findings as a research report

Researcher - Gender Issues Africa Project

African Mothers Foundation

Cardiff

At African Mothers Foundation we bring communities in Britain and Sub-Saharan African together to work in partnership, to challenge gender disparity and to help end global poverty through educating girls and enabling them to become powerful agents of change within their families, communities and nations.

We would like an intern to research female issues and problems that affect these African communities’ e.g. poor literacy and numeracy, sexual abuse, sanitation. The information will be used in marketing campaigns and public talks to raise awareness of our work and build our reputation.

The internship will involve:
• Conducting research via websites, newsletters, specialist publications
• Collating information, statistics suitable for use in marketing materials, public talks, via the charity’s website and social media

We are looking for an intern to develop and apply an evaluation plan for a young leaders’ project for which we have received Welsh Government funding.

The internship will involve:
• Planning how to evaluate the project
• Exploring and identifying suitable evaluation models to show the distance travelled by the young people engaged in our leadership programme.
• Production of an evaluation report including case studies, feedback and any statistical findings

We are a well established organisation with many years experience dealing with thousands of people each year. Increasingly funders ask us to measure outcomes and provide information to back up the impact our services have on meeting their priorities.

We would like an intern to:
• Collect data from our Customer Relationship Management system to demonstrate the depth of our services and the outcomes
• Liaise with colleagues to identify potential users who could assist with the project
• Review how we store and use our data and make recommendations for how we can improve demonstrating the impact of our services
• Complete an Impact Document on a standard template
• Create a summary document to present to the Trustee Board and external stakeholders showing our results, impact

RSPCA Llys Nini has charity shops in Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot and Porthcawl. Our shops generate income which enables us to keep operating.

We would like an intern to undertake an analysis of the buying trends in our charity shops to have a better understanding of our markets. We want to change people’s perceptions to encourage donating of textiles not dumping.

This internship involves:
 Liaise with staff in charity shops to understand what their perceptions are of the current buying trends e.g. popular ranges, customer profiles
 Analysis evaluate data from various sources e.g. till roles, number counts.

Since 2007 the SAFE Foundation has been assisting in the provision of grants of money and materials to contribute to poverty relief in developing countries such as India, Uganda, Ghana and Cambodia.

In the UK we deliver training in global citizenship to those that culturally disengaged i.e. NEETS (not in education or employment) which covers communication skills and raises awareness of global issues such as immigration, conflicts, poverty and gender etc. over 12 weeks. We also deliver 1 day training in Schools, Colleges and for local community groups.

With appropriate support we would like an intern to assist with delivering this training.

The internship involves:
• Attending a training sessions to observe teaching approaches
• With support deliver training sessions to NEETS, community groups, students
• Gather feedback
